According to Yonhap news on July 1st, South Korean President Li Jae-myung said during a lunch meeting with former President Moon Jae-in at the presidential palace Cheong Wa Dae that while strengthening internal unity, it is necessary to continuously expand support bases abroad, thereby creating a structural majority advantage.
The National Assembly of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea will be held on August 17, but divisions within the ruling camp are intensifying. Some believe that Lee Jae-myung's remarks may aim to call for unity within the ruling camp and to expand external support, thereby providing a backing for stable governance.
Lee Jae-ming emphasized that the government will inherit the policies implemented by previous democratic governments. He stated that after the governments of Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in, a government of democratic rule has been established. This government will operate on the basis of the achievements made by previous democratic governments, leveraging their strengths and addressing their weaknesses, and continuously creating new achievements for democratic governments. At the same time, the government will continue to implement policies such as the "Sunshine Policy" that were adopted by previous democratic governments, aiming for peaceful coexistence between South Korea and North Korea.
