According to CNN and The Associated Press, on July 7 local time, a Mexican citizen was shot by officials from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Houston, Texas, further raising questions about Trump's immigration policies.
ICE stated that the man, named Araoho, is 52 years old and resides illegally in the United States. During a special arrest operation on the morning of the 7th, law enforcement officers stopped the vehicle involved in the incident. Araoho tried to evade arrest by driving at the law enforcement vehicles, ignoring verbal instructions multiple times.
The department stated that Araújo ‘used a vehicle as a weapon and attempted to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer taking action to defend himself’. Araújo was taken to the hospital but died due to his severe injuries.

The family members of the victim do not accept the official explanation. Sargado, the son of Araujo, stated that at around 7 a.m. that day, the father with three children was picking up his last worker in East Houston. As he was heading north to several construction sites, an ICE agent in an unmarked car shot at his van, resulting in his immediate death from gunshot wounds.
According to family members, over the past 35 years, Araujo has maintained a consistent routine every day: getting up at 5 a.m., saying goodbye to his wife, loading tools into his construction van, driving there to pick up colleagues, and heading to various construction sites in Houston to work.
Salgado mentioned that over the past year and a half, Araujo has submitted photographs and statements from his employer and relatives to obtain a work permit, and stated that he is “soon to be legally established.”
He should not have died, and he shouldn't be brushed aside with a headline like "Mexican Man Shot by ICE" he said. “He was supposed to live a peaceful life, being a husband, a father, and creating jobs for dozens of people who are also yearning for the American Dream,"
He dedicated his whole life to achieving the American Dream for his family in the United States. He educated me and my brothers from a young age, making us believe that education could lead to a more fulfilling life." Said Salgado.
After the incident, Texas Democratic legislators, civil rights activists, and the family of the victim all called for a thorough and comprehensive investigation into his death. On the 8th local time, a large number of people gathered near the place where Arloho was shot that evening, shouting “Drive ICE out of Houston”.
According to statistics, since the Trump administration began tightening immigration enforcement, there have been at least six incidents where federal law enforcement officers have been killed by gunfire.
The report indicates that this is another case this year where federal immigration officials have fired shots, resulting in serious injuries or deaths to civilians. This has once again raised doubts about the Trump administration’s nationwide immigration crackdown. Although it is claimed that the action is aimed at deporting dangerous criminals within the country, the actual standards used in enforcement remain unclear.
