China Responds to NATOs Arctic Concerns

July 10th, Foreign Minister spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a routine press conference.

Some foreign media reporters asked that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this week that NATO member states must coordinate their actions and work together to prevent Russia and China from increasing their influence in the Arctic region. What is China's comment on this?

Mao Ning said that the Arctic involves the overall interests of the international community. China's activities in the Arctic aim to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Arctic, which comply with international law. The rights and freedoms of countries to carry out activities in the Arctic according to law should be fully respected. The Chinese side firmly opposes the recurrence of the 'China threat' narrative and the creation of tension and confrontation in the Arctic.

On July 8 local time, Rutte claimed that NATO plans to coordinate actions with its allies in order to ‘stop Russia and China from strengthening their positions in the Arctic’.

"U.S. President Trump said that China and Russia are strengthening their position in the Arctic, he is completely correct, so it's extremely important for NATO members to work together to prevent this." Lut stated.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov previously stated that NATO is expanding its militarization plans in the Arctic region, turning it into a conflict zone.

Russian Ambassador to Norway Koltchkov also stated that Russia poses no threat to any country in the Arctic region, and Russia is committed to maintaining peace in the area. He also pointed out that NATO's military infrastructure and offensive weapon systems are located near Russia's borders, posing a threat to Russia's national security.
