Iran Rejects US Demand for Negotiations Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions

According to Reuters, on June 11 local time, Iran's Foreign Minister Alagarzi arrived in Oman to discuss matters related to the safe navigation of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has demanded that Iran make a public commitment to ensuring the freedom and safety of navigation in the channel.

According to CBS, on that day, a team consisting of Vice President Williams of the United States, Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, Special Advisor Wootkoff, and Secretary of State Rubio will negotiate with Al-Aragzi. However, it is still unclear whether the negotiations will take place in Oman or will be conducted online.

On the evening of June 10 local time, U.S. President Trump stated that despite the escalation of hostilities this week, Iran has expressed a desire to continue negotiations, and the ceasefire agreement reached between the two sides is now void. As of now, no new attacks have been reported by any parties.

Iran has refuted Trump's claims, stating that Iran did not take the initiative to negotiate with the United States. It merely agreed to host Qatar's mediator. A person familiar with the matter told Reuters that Qatar's negotiators went to Iran on the 10th to try to ease tensions and discuss issues related to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Several high-ranking American officials revealed on the 10th that the US demanded Iran to publicly promise to stop attacking ships in the strait and to fully open all waterways without charging tolls.

According to an Iranian Fars News Agency report on the 11th, citing a source close to the Iranian negotiation team, some 'pro-Israel media' reports stating that Iran has requested negotiations with the United States are false. Iran has not made any requests for negotiations with the United States. Iran will not engage in any negotiations with the United States until the United States abandons its current stance.

According to a report by Iran's Meyhah Communication Agency on the 11th, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bagheri said that Iran has rejected requests to negotiate with the United States.
