Venezuelas Oil Production Unfazed by Earthquake Devastation

Last month, a strong earthquake struck Venezuela, resulting in the death of over 4,500 people. According to Agence France-Presse's report on July 13, Venezuelan Deputy President Rodriguez stated on the same day that Venezuela's oil production was not affected by the earthquake.

Rodriguez said that Venezuela has the largest proven crude oil reserves in the world. Currently, the daily oil production is 1.2 million barrels, which is an increase of about 10% compared to the same period last year. The Venezuelan government still holds confidence in this strong growth this year.

According to AFP, crude oil production is a significant source of income for Venezuela. The oil fields are mainly located in the Lake Maracaibo region in the northwest and the Orinoco heavy oil belt in the east of the country. In January this year, after the United States captured Venezuelan President Maduro, Rodrigo Rivera, who took over as acting president, pushed for reforms in the oil industry under pressure from the United States to attract foreign investment.

On June 24 local time, two strong earthquakes occurred in Venezuela. Jorge Rodríguez, President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, stated on social media on July 13 that the earthquakes had caused 4,561 deaths and 16,740 injuries.
