According to several American media reports, after losing the case before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. President Donald Trump has paid over $5.6 million in compensation to the American writer Jennie Carroll, who accused him of sexual assault.
According to court documents cited by The Associated Press, the funds were transferred from a custodial account on the 13th, including $5 million in compensation and corresponding interest. Since the first judgment in this case in 2023, these funds have been kept in that account.
Carroll's lawyer stated in a statement that the client is pleased to receive the compensation.
"Trump's legal team spokesperson stated: "The American people stand with President Trump, demanding the immediate cessation of all political persecution, including the charade funded by the Democratic Party known as 'Carol's Scheme.'"
After the decision by the US Supreme Court, Trump continued to viciously attack Carroll, posting that it was 'a fake case'.
Previously, in 2023, Carroll alleged that nearly 30 years ago, Trump raped her in a department store on Manhattan. In the same year, a jury in the federal court of New York ruled that Trump had committed sexual assault and slander against Carroll, but did not convict him of rape. The jury ordered him to pay $5 million in damages.
After Trump’s appeal, the U.S. Federal Second Circuit Court of Appeal upheld the original judgment in December 2024. Subsequently, Trump continued to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. At the end of June this year, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Trump’s appeal request.
On July 8 local time, Federal District Judge Kaplan approved Carol’s request for compensation plus interest. Kaplan wrote in her written ruling that Trump “has been delaying this case for many years,” and that the appeals court had already upheld the original judgment. Trump’s attempts to seek a further review have also failed completely.
Carroll filed another lawsuit against Trump in 2024, and the trial was scheduled for that year. The jury ruled that Trump must pay more than $83 million in damages for slander. Trump is currently appealing this decision.
