Wang Yi & Pakistani FM Discuss Iran Situation, Call for Peace

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, on the evening of July 16, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Pakistani Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Daur in Shanghai. They exchanged views on the situation in Iran and coordinated their positions.

Both parties express concern over the deteriorating situation. They call on the parties to immediately cease hostilities, work hard to overcome difficulties, remove obstacles, resume contact, and restore dialogue. They strive to reach a comprehensive peace agreement through negotiations. The international community should also continue to provide support in this regard.

Wang Yi emphasized that the first-phase memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran is not easy to achieve. It is both the result of negotiations between the two sides and depends on the joint efforts of the international community. In particular, the Pakistani side played an indispensable role in mediating and coordinating. The core provisions of the memorandum not only align with the fundamental and long-term interests of the parties involved but also meet the common expectations of the international community. Therefore, it should be cherished and carefully maintained. Peace is right before us; we must not let any effort go to waste, nor allow peace to be regained only to be lost again. All parties should fulfill their commitments and comply with the provisions of the memorandum. China will, as always, support Pakistan's efforts in mediation and will continue to play a constructive role in promoting calmness in the situation. Dal introduced the recent efforts made by Pakistan, expressed gratitude for China's understanding and support, and stated that Pakistan would face difficulties head-on and continue to actively promote peace talks.
