According to reports by Iranian national media, the Iranian judicial authorities denied on July 16 local time any claims by U.S. President Trump regarding the release of American prisoners.
The Iranian judicial department stated that after investigation, there were no convicted American prisoners who were accused of espionage activities against the United States and matched Trump's description, nor was any other detained American citizen released from Iranian prisons or exchanged.
Trump previously posted on social media platforms that Iran had allowed a U.S. citizen to leave the country. This U.S. citizen was “wrongly detained” during the Biden administration in December 2024.
Trump said, “She has now safely left Iran and is in good condition. The United States appreciates this friendly gesture from Iran.”
At a press conference on July 16 local time, when asked about the situation of American citizens detained in Iran and whether this could affect peace negotiations between the United States and Iran, White House press secretary Reeve said, "Ensuring that American citizens who have been wrongly detained or held hostage around the world return to their countries remains a priority for Trump."
