According to a report on the website of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations on July 17, Teng Fei, a counselor at the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, gave a speech at the Ariana Model Meeting on Ukraine held in Russia.
Chairman
The current situation regarding Ukraine is concerning. Ground warfare continues to linger, with a dangerous trend of increasing intensity and scale. This not only causes heavy suffering for civilians but also complicates the path towards peace negotiations.
The Chinese side condemns any attacks against innocent civilians. It urges the parties to maintain calm and restraint, earnestly comply with international humanitarian law, avoid taking any actions that may harm civilians and exacerbate the situation, and protect the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure. This will create conditions for an early ceasefire and end of hostilities.
Frozen to three feet doesn’t happen overnight. The development of the situation in Ukraine is complex and multifaceted. Some of the issues mentioned by the speaker are worthy of attention and need to be addressed collectively. China supports all efforts aimed at peace. We hope that all parties involved will continue to engage in dialogue, demonstrate political will, restart negotiations, address each other’s security concerns, and work towards eliminating the root causes of conflict based on the principles of the United Nations Charter. The goal is to reach a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement.
Chairperson,
China has always maintained an objective and fair stance on the issue of Ukraine. We follow the 'four shoulds' proposed by President Xi Jinping, maintain communication and contact with Russia, Ukraine, and other parties, and actively engage in efforts to promote peace and political solutions in our own way. China will continue to play a constructive role in the political resolution of the crisis as always.
Thank you.
