According to reports from the Iranian Tasnim News Agency and the Islamic Republic News Agency, several locations on Geshm Island in southern Iran were attacked by missiles on July 19.
Geshm Island is located in the southern part of Iran, within the Hormozgan Strait. It faces the port of Abadan across the sea and is a strategic location that controls the entrance to the Persian Gulf.
According to reports, as the United States launched a new round of attacks against Iran on the 19th, residents of Gusham Island said “three to five missiles struck Gusham Island”. So far, there have been no reports of civilian casualties or damage to infrastructure.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, around 4 a.m. that day, several explosions were heard near Abbas Port and Ghashim Island. The cause and exact location of these explosions are currently being investigated.
Iranian Mehr News agency reported that around 3:40, an attack occurred near Gusham Island. They described this incident as an attack by American military forces.
On the 18th, the US Central Command announced on social media that the US military had launched a new round of air strikes against Iran at 18:00 Eastern Time on that day.
According to reports, the US military’s action aims to ‘further weaken Iran’s ability to pose a threat to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and to swiftly punish the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for attacking a US military base in Jordan on the evening of the 17th.’
Earlier that day, the U.S. Central Command announced that two U.S. soldiers were killed by Iranian ballistic missiles and drones in Jordan on the 17th. One U.S. soldier is missing, and four other soldiers have been taken to hospitals for treatment. This brings the total number of U.S. casualties to 16 since the large-scale military operations launched by the United States and Israel against Iran at the end of February. More than 400 people have also been injured.
