According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on July 21, 2026, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Canada’s Foreign Minister Anand in Manila.
Wang Yi said that since the beginning of this year, China-Canada relations have been developing positively. There has been increasing interaction at all levels, and achievements in cooperation in various fields have emerged. In the first half of the year, bilateral trade volume increased by 16% year-on-year, especially Canada's exports to China increased by 23.3%. Agricultural products such as rapeseed and beef have returned to the Chinese market, and Chinese electric vehicles have entered the Canadian market, providing more high-quality options for the people of both countries. It has been proven that the improvement and development of China-Canada relations are in the common interests of both countries, welcome by the people of both countries, and a historical correct choice. The Chinese side is willing to work with Canada to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, prepare for the next stage of high-level exchanges, enhance political trust, expand cooperation and exchanges, strengthen collaboration on global governance and multilateral issues such as artificial intelligence, properly handle sensitive issues, and continuously enrich the content of the new type of strategic partnership between China and Canada, thereby injecting more certainty into a world torn by turmoil.

Anand stated that relations with China are one of the bilateral relationships that Canada values most. Currently, the improvement and development of Canada-China relations are progressing smoothly and strongly. Both sides are actively implementing the consensus reached during the meeting between their leaders during Prime Minister Trudeau's visit to China in January this year. Communication at various levels is becoming more frequent, and economic and trade cooperation is deepening. In particular, Canada's exports to China have seen growth, and new achievements have been made in building a new type of strategic partnership between the two countries. Canada firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to further strengthen high-level exchanges with China, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, finance, and anti-drug efforts, promote cultural exchanges, enhance multilateral coordination, resolve differences through dialogue, and promote the long-term, healthy, and stable development of Canada-China relations.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
