On July 24 local time, former U.S. Secretary of State Blinken stated that it would be difficult for the United States to win if they faced China in a one-on-one confrontation.
"U.S.-China relations are the most complicated and important bilateral relationship in American foreign relations," Blinken stated on a podcast program, "There are both areas of intense competition and potential areas for cooperation between the two countries. We always hope that both sides can avoid conflict."
"But if we were to have a one-on-one confrontation with China, it would be a mismatch of strength entirely."
He listed: “China’s scale far exceeds ours. Its market size is much larger, and its manufacturing industry is three times that of the United States. China also has more ships, and it leads in the number of academic papers published and patents granted.”
Even if we have a strong military capability, facing China in a one-on-one confrontation would be extremely difficult. Blinken said.
He then stated that therefore the United States should form alliances with countries that also have certain “dissatisfactions” with China in some areas, such as Europe, Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia.
