According to Burnham, his first interaction with Trump was pleasant, and he found Trump to be 'very enthusiastic'.
But when asked twice whether he trusted Trump, Bernum did not answer directly, but said, "The world is constantly changing, and obviously you must make judgments based on the developments."
When asked whether he would publicly criticize Trump if it were in line with British national interests, Burnham replied, “Of course.” “You must put defending your country’s national interests above everything else; that is the basic requirement of doing this job well.”
Bernam also expressed his “concern” over Trump’s provocation of conflicts with Iran, and said that he “will not hesitate to say what I believe is right, regardless of any considerations.”
In recent years, relations between the United States and the United Kingdom have faced continuous challenges, with growing differences between the two countries in areas such as trade and defense.
