As South Korean semiconductor giant Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix experience rising performance and stock prices, employees from both companies have become increasingly popular in the South Korean dating market.
According to reports by Yonhap and other media on May 25th, senior officials from South Koreas local marriage agency Sang-uk revealed that the spouse index for Samsung Electronics employees has increased from 84 points to 87 points recently.
The person said, The Spouse Index has always been very stable. A rise of 3 points is indeed rare. Nowadays, the ratings of Samsung Electronics employees in the matchmaking market are close to those of lawyers (90 points).
Although the index has only increased by 3 points, the actual increase felt by matchmakers is over 10 points, he explained. This undoubtedly reflects the growing emphasis that the current generation of people who are ready to marry place on practical considerations when choosing a partner.

In a variety show broadcast in South Korea this year, a mans attitude changed drastically after he wore his KIA worker uniform.

Other marriage agencies have also felt the same shift in trends.
People involved with the marriage and love agency Jia Yuan said, Members frequently discuss the prosperous period of the semiconductor industry. It is generally agreed that generous annual salaries and performance bonuses can help employees build a stable life quickly. Additionally, there is very little risk of this industry being replaced by artificial intelligence.
Behind this phenomenon lies the markets strong expectations regarding huge performance bonuses being awarded in the semiconductor industry.
According to the agreement reached between Samsung Electronics and its employees, with an annual salary of 100 million Korean won as the baseline, employees in the Semiconductor Memory Division are expected to receive performance bonuses of up to 600 million Korean won (approximately 2.71 million RMB). It is also predicted that if the industry remains highly competitive for about three years, employees may even earn salaries ranging from 2 billion to 3 billion Korean won, depending on their positions.
It is widely believed within and outside the industry that such substantial salary increases go beyond mere salary increases. They are becoming catalysts for reshaping an individuals social and economic status.
It is also pointed out that this huge amount of liquid capital is likely to flow into the real estate market.
Some analysts believe that the bus routes connecting Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix factories will likely be the first to reflect this change in housing prices, particularly in the southern regions of Gyeonggi-do, as well as in areas like Songpa and Gangnam in Seoul.
