According to the website of Euronews, after Bulgaria allowed the United States to use its military bases, Iran once again issued a warning to the country.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bağacı on July 27th released a statement via social media saying: "The decision-makers in Bulgaria must bear responsibility for the dangerous decision to receive US aerial refueling planes at their military bases."
The statement also added that Tehran believes this is not an isolated incident; Bulgaria has previously made similar decisions to “support the United States' military actions against Iran”.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: "Bulgarians are very clear that there has never been any issue between the Iranian people and the Bulgarian people. For decades, our two countries have maintained relations based on mutual respect."
Reports say this is the third time Iran has warned Bulgaria regarding the deployment of US military aircraft.
On the 22nd of this month, the Bulgarian Parliament voted to approve a request for the United States to deploy up to 8 refueling aircraft at the Baizmer Air Base in Bulgaria. The deployment will take place from July 24 to October 1, 2026.
Regarding this, U.S. President Donald Trump specifically posted a message on social media to express his gratitude: "Thank you, Prime Minister Radov! Bulgaria stands with Trump, supporting the deployment of the U.S. Air Force base despite the threats from Iran."
This incident has caused concerns within Bulgaria. Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov tried to reassure the public, assuring them that the risks were limited.
Stoyanov said in an interview with Bulgarian media that he is not worried about an Iranian missile attack on Bulgaria, but he admitted that "anything could happen."
