According to a report by the South Korean 'Central Daily News' on July 26, Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at OpenAI's headquarters in San Francisco, USA on July 25. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
OpenAI has not disclosed the specific topics of this meeting, but industry experts believe that the discussion may revolve around AI infrastructure cooperation, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM), dynamic random access memory (DRAM), and advanced wafer foundry technologies.
Analysis suggests that both parties may also discuss how to use generative artificial intelligence to drive Samsung’s internal AI transformation. This technology could be applied to various business processes such as software development, marketing, product research and development, and manufacturing, in order to improve the overall efficiency of the company.
In June this year, OpenAI announced a partnership with Samsung, offering ChatGPT and Codex services to all employees at Samsung's headquarters in South Korea, as well as those working in the Device Experience department worldwide. This is considered one of OpenAI's largest enterprise-level deployment projects to date.
According to reports, Samsung and OpenAI signed a strategic cooperation agreement in October last year. Both parties are advancing the expansion of advanced storage chip production and jointly building the next-generation AI infrastructure. OpenAI stated that the cooperation framework with the South Korean government, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix is its first ‘national-level strategic partnership’ announced in the Asia-Pacific region.
Before meeting Lee Jae-moon, Ortman was also active at the San Francisco Artificial Intelligence Conference, and met with South Korean President Lee Jae-moon on the 24th.
