Chinese Cryptocurrency Investor Dies By Apparent Fall From Luxury Apartment

According to Paraguayan local media outlet La Tribuna, Chinese cryptocurrency investor Ye Junde died by falling naked from the 30th floor of his luxury apartment.

According to the media report, the incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on August 7th. Security personnel in the building heard a loud noise coming from the ground floor and covered the body with a protective blanket before the arrival of criminal investigators.

The incident took place in an apartment in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. This residential complex is one of the tallest buildings in the area.

At the scene of the crime, a handwritten note and several small stones were found near the victim’s body. However, the media did not disclose the content of the note, and authorities have not confirmed whether these items are related to Ye Junde’s death.

Additionally, experts from the criminal forensics department are analyzing the traces found on the floor-to-ceiling windows on the 30th floor. A representative of Paraguay's public department described the scene: "There was a narrow and long table leaning against the balcony. The blinds were open, with a width comparable to that of the table, and there were fingerprints on it."

Experts say that the marks on the glass may have served as supports for jumping into the air.

The residence permit statement shows that the man has exhibited unusual behavior in recent weeks. He has walked around in public areas naked and refused to wear dark clothing.

The prosecutor confirmed that the man tended to avoid the public areas of the building during his activities. In response, investigators explained: “He had some strange behavior; he has been using the fire escape recently and was unwilling to use the elevator.”

The prosecution has obtained access to the building’s closed-circuit surveillance system. However, the surveillance cameras were unable to fully cover the key passages through which the deceased last moved.

The 29-year-old Brazilian partner said that the deceased had eaten alone several hours before the fatal fall. She claimed to have no knowledge of what happened.

It is reported that the forensic team completed the collection of bodily fluids over the weekend. Laboratory tests will determine whether the deceased’s abnormal behavior before the incident was related to any chemical substances.

Regarding the time frame for identification, Paraguay's prosecutor Maria del Carmen Palazón emphasized that scientific tests require some time for analysis. "I think an autopsy will be quicker, but laboratory tests will take longer to determine whether there are any toxic substances present."

Palsong stated that the legal characterization of this case must await the completion of laboratory analysis before any decision can be made.

Currently, the families of the victims are coordinating the procedures for the repatriation of the bodies. It is worth noting that China does not have diplomatic relations with Paraguay.

Public information shows that Ye Junde was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was a child. In 2013, when the price of Bitcoin was still around $60 per unit, Ye Junde reportedly invested $250,000 as startup capital to enter the digital asset industry and founded Binary Financial, engaging in over-the-counter trading and other services. That same year, he further established Quantum Fintech to carry out cryptocurrency asset management business.

According to Shenzhen Business Daily, currently Ye Junde and his team have assets worth over $2.4 billion through their hedge fund network and private investment management.
