Fox News reported on August 13 that recently, U.S. President Trump officially abolished a guideline issued by the U.S. State Department. This guideline was introduced during Biden’s administration and required U.S. diplomats to promote diversity in gender (LGBT) and the agenda of "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessible Environment" (DEIA) among foreign officials and governments.
U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pettit said in an interview with Fox News: “Under the Trump administration, the responsibility of U.S. diplomats is to defend national interests on the world stage, rather than promoting those politically correct slogans.”
Fox News obtained documents from the Biden administration indicating that the previous government instructed its officials to deliberately instill the concept of "awakening" during high-level meetings with foreign counterparts and bilateral dialogues.
The document once asked: “Do front-line offices often raise issues such as social inclusiveness, racial/gender equality, disability, and LGBTQI+ issues with the parties involved—especially in countries where these issues are controversial? Have these issues been included in the agenda for discussion?”
"One-line office" refers to the principal officials of US State Department embassies and consulates and their management teams, who directly handle liaison and diplomatic affairs with local governments.
During Biden's tenure, guidance was not limited to recommendations alone. During the previous administration, the State Department conducted quantitative assessments of the implementation of DEI policies, using them as one of the criteria for evaluating staff promotions.
According to reports, under Trump’s leadership of the State Department, “these standards are no longer used as a basis for performance evaluation.”
Additionally, the document requires frontline offices to ensure that each employee supports the "DEIA Council". If such a council does not exist in their own unit, efforts should be made to establish one.
Pigot said that under Trump's leadership, the State Department will "be completely focused on practical diplomatic needs, rather than playing political games."
He added, "The State Council is undergoing a comprehensive reform of diplomatic service. We will only recruit those who have real talents and will shift the focus of training back to solid diplomatic skills."
