The Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not provide any explanations in its statement, only claiming that this measure is 'in accordance with international law'.
Cuba immediately protested. According to the Granma newspaper, Cuba's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on the 13th that the Dominican government had expelled 10 Cuban diplomats and their families, and Cuba expressed its strongest opposition to this decision.
The statement said that Dominica’s decision had no justifiable reasons. Cuban diplomats have always strictly adhered to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and respected Dominican law. This measure seriously damages the relations between the two governments, but it cannot undermine the deep and long-standing connections between the people of Cuba and Dominica.
