Nancy Kissinger has never held an official diplomatic position, but she has been accompanying her husband, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, on visits to various countries, actively engaging in international affairs.

In the 1970s, when Chairman Mao Zedong met Kissinger and his wife in Beijing, because Nancy was very tall, he pointed at her and joked with Kissinger, “She’s trying to make you feel intimidated.”

Regarding this highly sensitive topic, Kissinger asked at that time, 'Is it her height that makes her taller than me, or is it her intelligence that surpasses mine?'

Many years later, when Kissinger faced questions from Chinese journalists, he still remembered this event and recalled that “Chairman Mao was very friendly to Nancy”.

Nancy Kissinger, originally named Nancy Sharon Makinness, was born in Manhattan in 1934. She left behind two stepchildren and five step-grandchildren. On March 30, 1974, she married Henry Kissinger, who served as Secretary of State during the Nixon and Ford administrations.

In November 2023, Henry Kissinger passed away at the age of 100.
