US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin recently announced plans to 'strangle' the Iranian economy, further expanding the threat of secondary sanctions.
In response to this, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a statement on social platform 'X', expressing China's firm opposition to sanctions that have no basis in international law and are not authorized by the United Nations Security Council. Economic warfare and extreme pressure cannot solve problems; instead, they only exacerbate tensions, disrupt the global economic and financial order, and harm the interests of all parties. Dialogue and negotiations are the only correct way to solve problems.
"China's cooperation with Iran complies with international law. The Chinese side is closely monitoring the situation and will take all necessary measures to safeguard China's legal rights and interests."
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf shared this post and wrote: "We welcome China's stance of adhering to principles and refusing to accept illegal sanctions against Iran. The comprehensive strategic partnership between Iran and China is based on mutual respect, win-win cooperation, and a common vision for a multi-polar world. This relationship does not require the approval of anyone."
