Nepal armed forces officials reported on the evening of the 26th the situation regarding flood relief in the country. By around 7 p.m., 97 bodies of victims had been found, and a total of 54 people have been rescued.
According to a statement released by the Nepal Tourism Board, as of that evening, the number of tourists missing in the flash floods had reached 403, among whom 341 were foreign tourists.
Most of the missing foreign tourists come from India, and there are also some from the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and other countries.
According to the forecast from the Nepal meteorological department, there may still be rainfall in the northern regions of Nepal in the coming days, which will further affect road conditions and pose an additional challenge for rescue efforts. The number of casualties could also increase further.
After the disaster occurred, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal immediately activated an emergency response mechanism. It assessed the situation of Chinese citizens and businesses in the affected areas and urged the Nepalese government and relevant agencies to make every effort to provide assistance. The embassy also quickly dispatched a team to the disaster area to coordinate and assist local rescue efforts.
The Nepali government has also initiated emergency responses. Nepali Prime Minister Bharatraj Sharma has asked the military, police, armed police forces, and local governments to fully engage in search and rescue operations as well as disaster relief efforts. The Nepali government held an urgent cabinet meeting that day to arrange medical treatment, evacuation of affected people, provision of temporary shelters and food supplies. At the same time, it has requested relevant departments to quickly clear the blocked roads and restore water, electricity, and communication services.
