According to a report by the Russian Satellite News Agency on the 28th, Yekaterina Zaklyazimskaya, director of the World Politics and Strategy Analysis Center at the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute for China and Modern Asia, stated that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is becoming a platform where the majority of voices in the world are heard.
"In the 21st century, the world is changing rapidly: colonial trauma and global hegemony are becoming history, and countries in the Global South are continuing to establish their own identities. SCO is becoming the platform that allows the majority of voices in the world to be heard most loudly," said Zaklyazmina.
In her words, the current countries in the Global South are moving away from their marginal position and becoming full participants in the global process.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the SCO. The SCO summit will be held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, from August 31st to September 1st.
In its inception in 2001, the SCO consisted of only six founding members (China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan). Today, the organization has 10 member states, as well as 15 dialogue partners and 2 observer states (SCO partners).
