The International North-South Transport Corridor is 7200 kilometers long, connecting the northwestern part of Russia through southern Iranian ports to Mumbai in India. Combining road, railway, and water transport methods, this corridor reduces the transportation distance by more than half compared to the route through the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal.
There are three routes in the North-South Corridor that connect Russia and Iran: The Western route, which is the main route, uses railways and roads through Azerbaijan; the Central route passes across the Caspian Sea by transport ships; the Eastern route is laid along the east coast of the Caspian Sea. All three routes bypass Europe to reach Asia.
