According to Reuters reported on the 27th, the US government recently issued a memo to American universities, attempting to restrict the issuance of certain internship work permits to international students. The US federal government warned that universities that do not comply with the regulations may lose their right to recruit foreign students.
According to reports, the federal memo dated August 24 mentions that information related to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) under the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicates that the number of authorized ‘course-based training programs’ has increased, and some of these programs appear to violate relevant regulations. According to these requirements, ‘course-based training programs’ can only be conducted when they are an essential part of the established curriculum.
The memo states, “If institutions fail to comply with the regulations set by the SEVP, they may be disqualified from accepting foreign students.”
Due to this situation, universities such as the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of California, Berkeley have suspended the processing of certain work permits for international students.
