According to today's Russian news agency RT and the Nepali media Khabarhub, on August 27 local time, Nepali police arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing gold earrings from the bodies of victims of the floods.
According to reports, videos circulating on social media show two men squatting by the river. One man uses a long stick to hold down a body that is floating in the river, while another man removes the gold earrings from the body.
This video sparked public anger. The police in Chitwan, Nepal, immediately launched an investigation and carried out arrests.
The police said that the body was washed into the Nalayani River by the floodwaters.
According to the Chitwan Police Station, the police identified and arrested two suspects in the metropolitan city of Balatpur on the 27th based on the video footage.
The identities of the suspects have been confirmed. They are 25-year-old Madan Gurung and 38-year-old Umesh Chaudhary. Both suspects have been transferred to the Chittawang police station for further investigation.
