According to Russian News Agency reports, on September 5th local time, U.S. President Special Envoy Weterkov and Trump's son-in-law Kushner arrived in the Russian capital Moscow.
That afternoon, Vitkov and Kuznetsov arrived at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport on a special plane. Kirill Dimitriev, president of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special representative of Russian President Putin, welcomed them at the airport. They then traveled from the airport to the center of Moscow together.
On September 4th, local time, U.S. President Trump announced that Weterkov and Kudszna would visit Russia and Ukraine, bringing a plan to "end the war".
Trump said during his appearance at the White House in response to reporters' questions: "We have a vision for peace. I have sent Wittkevch and Kusner, two outstanding negotiators. They have performed exceptionally well. I sent them there to see if we can accomplish some things. There is a good chance of success."
On September 2, Putin stated that Russia is willing to communicate with all parties interested in engaging in dialogue. American representatives are always “welcome guests”, and Russia is willing to cooperate with them.
According to CNN, after completing their visit to Moscow, Vettchev and Kushner plan to travel to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
However, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated on the 5th that two airports near Kyiv were struck by “Russian missiles”, including Borispi Airport, which was once used for international flights.
Zelenskyy said: "Russia's strike on the airport is clearly a response to the U.S. plans to send aircraft for related consultations and preparations in Ukraine."
Since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, foreign leaders have arrived in Kyiv by train from Poland. It is currently unclear whether this missile attack will change the itinerary of the American delegation.
The report mentioned that during the mission envoy's visit to Russia, Russian officials are sending signals of "Moscow having no intention of making concessions."
According to RT report on September 5th, when asked about the situation surrounding the visit of the U.S. special envoy to Russia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Iryabkov said: "In resolving the issue in Ukraine, the U.S. government must respect the local reality. The development of the battlefield situation is not conducive to the Ukrainian side."
Riabkov said, "The key issue is how much effort the U.S. government is willing to put in, considering various factors such as the reality on the battlefield, in order to find a real solution to the current crisis."
He added, "In fact, the situation during and after the Anchorage summit raised many questions: Can the US maintain a rational approach when dealing with this series of urgent issues? Will they not be influenced by political expediency, nor by those who oppose reaching a settlement? These questions still have no answers."
