According to Russia Today, on September 4, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova said, "The Japanese leadership has never had, and should not be concerned about the situation in Ukraine, as they have no knowledge of it. The situation in Ukraine has nothing to do with Japan. However, simply because of orders from the United States, Japan is also starting to withdraw its production and companies from Russia."

She pointed out that Japan’s sanctions against Russia ultimately hit Japan itself.
Zaharova reminded that the joint production of Japanese cars in Russia has brought benefits to all parties involved, including Japanese companies and workers.
She emphasized that any new restrictions from Japan would be responded to, “If they come up with new sanctions measures, we will respond by taking corresponding countermeasures.”
