On June 9th, BYD Corporation announced on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that it had noticed a notice issued by the U.S. Department of Defense on June 8th, 2026 (US time), titled "Notice on Designating Chinese Military Enterprises". According to this notice, the U.S. Department of Defense has listed the company among the list of Chinese military enterprises. Since the group is neither a Chinese military enterprise nor an enterprise involved in military-civilian integration within China’s defense industry, the company believes there is no reason to include it in such a list. The list of Chinese military enterprises is not a sanctions list. Being listed on this list will not affect the normal operation of the group's business, nor will it impact any business dealings with any party (except the U.S. Department of Defense). The procurement restrictions imposed by U.S. government agencies related to this list will not affect the company's operations, and the list does not restrict the company's securities trading.
On June 9th, during a regular press conference hosted by Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, a AFP reporter asked: The United States has listed several Chinese technology companies, including Alibaba, Tencent, and BYD, on a list of companies allegedly supporting the Chinese military. What is China's response to this?
Lin Jian stated that China has always firmly opposed the US tendency to generalize concepts of national security and to create discriminatory lists under various pretexts, as well as the unjust suppression of Chinese enterprises. We urge the US to correct its wrong practices and stop its unjust actions against Chinese enterprises. China will take necessary measures to firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
