Chinese Embassy Denounces South Korea Parliament Members' Visit to Taiwan

On the 9th, the WeChat official account of the Chinese Embassy in South Korea reported that the embassy spokesman expressed a stern stance regarding the visit by a very few members of the Korean parliament to Taiwan, China.

Reportedly, South Korean parliamentarians Park Ju-young, Kwon Sang-hyun, and Kim Jae-won recently visited Taiwan, China. What is the spokesperson's comment on this?

Answer: The Chinese side firmly opposes the visits of three South Korean parliamentarians to Taiwan, China. A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated this position in a solemn manner. The Chinese Embassy in South Korea has also conveyed its firm opposition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Assembly, and relevant political parties in South Korea.

Currently, relations between China and South Korea are improving and developing, and are unanimously welcomed and supported by both Chinese and Korean parties. The issue of Taiwan is purely a matter of Chinese internal affairs and constitutes one of China’s core interests. The principle of "One China" serves as the political foundation for the development of Sino-Korean relations, and the South Korean side has repeatedly reiterated its commitment to respecting the principle of "One China.” Regrettably, a very small number of South Korean lawmakers have attempted to challenge this principle regarding Taiwan, attempting to disrupt and undermine Sino-Korean relations. Such actions are unacceptable and run counter to the efforts of all parties in both countries to promote friendly cooperation. It is believed that their attempts will not succeed.

It is hoped that the Korean side will fulfill its commitments, act in accordance with its words, and adhere to the one-China principle. Together with the Chinese side, they should maintain the hard-won good relationship between China and Korea.
