China Sanctions Philippine Defense Minister for Distancing Actions

According to information on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on the 11th, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that China has imposed sanctions on Philippine Defense Minister Teodoro and his relatives.

The Philippine Defense Minister Teodoro has repeatedly made statements involving China that harm China's legitimate interests and undermine the relations between China and the Philippines. In order to safeguard China's national sovereignty, security, and development interests, China has decided to ban Teodoro, his spouse, and their children from entering mainland China, as well as Hong Kong and Macau. It is also prohibited for organizations and individuals within China to engage in any transactions or cooperation with Teodoro, his spouse, and their children.

On June 2, when spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference, a reporter from China Daily asked: According to reports, Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Benitez said at the Shangri-La Dialogue that China provided Philippines with materials such as fertilizers and fuel, but did not show long-term sincerity; it was just packaging and deception. No matter how much help is hyped up, it does nothing to change Manila's view of China. He also said that the Philippines faces serious threats both in terms of territory and politics from China. What is China's comment on this?

Mao Ning stated that the Philippine defense minister has repeatedly made erroneous statements regarding China. The latest statement he made just now once again shows that this person completely ignores the welfare of the Filipino people. He has no sense of gratitude or appreciation; his only concern is personal gain. He even exploits matters related to people's well-being for political show-offs, seriously damaging the Sino-Filipino relations and mutual trust. This completely goes against the interests of the Filipino country and its people. The Philippine side should reflect seriously on this situation. If such people are allowed to act as they please, how will China continue to provide supplies and assistance to the Philippines? Who will ultimately bear the costs? And whose interests will be harmed?

Mao Ning said that Filipino leaders have repeatedly stated their willingness to resolve differences with China and to promote the improvement of bilateral relations. He hopes that the Philippines will act in accordance with its words, strictly regulate the actions of its officials, and not allow individual troublemakers to continuously undermine the stable relationship between the two sides.
