American death row inmate Christa Gail Pike did not die after receiving two rounds of lethal drug injections, which has attracted attention from all walks of life.
According to the 'Tennessee Lookout', a lawyer from Pickup confirmed on October 1st local time that Pickup is still alive, but in critical condition and receiving treatment in the hospital.
Pike was sentenced to death in 1995 for the murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. Pike was 18 years old at the time of the crime. The prosecution claimed that Pike and his accomplices lured Slemmer to a remote location near the University of Tennessee, where they beat and tortured her for a long period before killing her.
On September 30th, a lethal injection was carried out on Pike in Tennessee. However, after receiving two doses of lethal medication, Pike still did not die. The state prison department ultimately stopped the execution and transferred her to a medical facility outside the prison for treatment.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee subsequently announced a suspension of the execution of all remaining death sentences in the state for this year, and launched an investigation into the incident. However, he made no statement regarding the judgment in Payke.
According to the New York Post on the 1st, U.S. President Donald Trump found the failure of capital punishment execution unbelievable.
"How could this happen? This should be easy to do, shouldn't it be difficult?" Trump said. However, he refused to give his opinion on how to proceed with the issue and instead claimed that the decision of which step to take next should belong to the state of Tennessee.
