Zelensky wrote, "I highly appreciate the decision of the Japanese government to impose additional sanctions on Russia, especially regarding the 'shadow fleet' and the expansion of export restrictions."
Zelenskyy said that as winter approaches and Russia plans to increase its drone and missile attacks against Ukraine, Japan's actions are timely and necessary.

According to Japanese media reports, the Japanese government decided to impose additional sanctions against Russia at a cabinet meeting on the 2nd. Regarding 35 ships in Russia's 'shadow fleet' that are used to transport crude oil secretly in order to evade Western sanctions, the Japanese government has imposed a ban on providing them with services such as operation, maintenance, insurance, and financing.
Furthermore, the Japanese government has added 33 Russian military-related organizations and 9 individuals to the asset freezing list.
It is reported that the Japanese government has imposed more than 20 rounds of sanctions against Russia to date. This is the first time that high-level government officials have imposed sanctions against Russia during their tenure.
