NATO Receives Westphalia Peace Prize Amidst Protests

On October 1st local time, NATO received the Westphalia Peace Prize. When NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and German Chancellor Angela Merkel attended the award ceremony in the city of Münster, they were surrounded by protesters who shouted insults.

On that day, many protesters gathered outside the Munster City Hall, opposing the NATO award. A netizen posted a video on social media, captioning it: "Your hands are covered in blood."

The Westfalian Peace Prize was established in 1998 to commemorate the Treaty of Westphalia of 1648, which ended the Thirty Years' War in Europe. This treaty marked the beginning of modern international relations and laid the legal foundation for the principles of "equality of state sovereignty" and "non-interference in internal affairs."

The video shows protesters shouting angrily, "Murderous murderer! Murderous murderer!", while Mertz left as if nothing had happened, with a smile on his face.
