India and Pakistan Clash at Border: Diplomatic Row Erupts

According to Reuters, on October 3rd local time, India and Pakistan summoned the Acting Deputy High Commissioner of the High Commission for each other regarding the border incident that occurred on the 2nd.

On the 3rd, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement indicating that on the 2nd, personnel from India’s border security forces used lethal force against two unarmed Pakistani civilians at the border without any reason.

This statement stresses that Pakistan absolutely rejects any attempt to misrepresent the deceased as “extremists.”

Pakistan has stated that it has summoned the temporary representative of India at the Pakistani High Commission and expressed protest over this incident. It has also demanded an ‘immediate, transparent, and credible investigation’.

The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs subsequently issued a statement saying that it had summoned the temporary representative of Pakistan to the High Commissioner’s Office in India to protest Pakistan's 'continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration'.

The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Pakistan's allegations are "baseless and politically motivated."

The statement indicates that three people entered Indian territory at that time. The Indian Border Security Forces warned them multiple times to return, but they continued to move towards the border fence. “Due to these individuals posing an immediate security threat,” the Indian Border Security Forces were “forced” to take action.

The statement also stated that this incident highlights the problem of armed drug trafficking gangs in Pakistan engaging in cross-border activities repeatedly, and urged Pakistan to conduct an investigation.

India also urges Pakistan to respect international borders, comply with bilateral agreements, and ensure that its forces prevent unauthorized cross-border activities from the Pakistani side.

On October 2nd, a source within Pakistan's security forces said that on that day, Indian border guards shot two Pakistani civilians near the India-Pakistan border in the Kausar area of eastern Punjab province, and also injured another Pakistani civilian.
