On October 22, according to the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine, Ambassador Ma Shengkun met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Serebria at the invitation on the 21st. The two sides exchanged views on China-Ukraine relations and practical cooperation between the two countries.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Wednesday that the meeting focused primarily on restoring bilateral dialogue on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The parties discussed topics such as enhancing cooperation within international organizations, strengthening bilateral political contacts, promoting high-level visits, expanding bilateral trade volume, and facilitating the entry of more Ukrainian products into the Chinese market.
Additionally, it was stated that both sides exchanged opinions on what measures the Chinese side could take to promote the swift achievement of a peaceful solution. The Ukrainian side expressed their expectation that China would play a constructive role.
The statement also mentioned that Foreign Minister Serbica expressed her personal gratitude to all members of the Chinese embassy in Ukraine on that day, thanking them for continuing to work in Kyiv under difficult circumstances.

According to an interview published by the Ukrainian news agency on the 17th, during his participation in the 2026 Warsaw Security Forum, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Serbiga revealed again that he has received an invitation to visit China, but the specific date has not been determined. He also expressed his hope that China will play a more active role in resolving the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
"We believe that the Chinese side can play a very effective role," he stressed, "and we hope this visit to China will be successful because there are many major issues requiring discussion between us on trade and peace. Based on trade volume, China is currently Ukraine's largest trading partner."
This is not the first time that senior Ukrainian officials have signaled this. In early July this year, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release stating that Serbica, during her visit to Ankara for the NATO summit, publicly announced that she had received an invitation from China and expressed the desire to strengthen bilateral relations and welcome China's active role in achieving peace.
