Zelensky Thanks US for Resumption of Starlink Operations in Ukraine

On October 24th, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy released a video statement on the social media platform X, expressing gratitude to the United States.

Today's most important thing is that the operation speed of Xing Lian and Xing Dun has recovered to the previous limit, and now it has reached the required level, he said. "The restoration work started at night, and by this morning, the speed was sufficient."

Zelensky said that this is very important for the logistical support and defense at the frontline in Ukraine.

He also wrote, "I am grateful to all Americans and all those who took this matter seriously and provided real help, including U.S. congressmen, senators, the media, the U.S. Department of State, and the President. Protecting lives is of utmost importance."

"Star Shield" is a satellite communication system developed by SpaceX. It is considered the military version of "Star Link," used for military communications and operational activities, including controlling drones and guiding artillery strikes.

"Star Shield" is also the key support for Ukraine's air defense system in countering Russian drones. Last week, the Ukrainian side reported that the terminal installed on high-mobility vehicles failed to function normally, which affected the task of Ukrainian combat drones operating under the system's navigation and control.

Zelensky then pointed the finger at Trump and Musk, claiming that both of them ordered such restrictions. However, both Trump and Musk denied this claim.

On the morning of the 24th, Ukrainian Defense Minister Hrymu said that the “Starlink” system used by the country’s military had resumed normal operation by Saturday morning. He stated that drone tests showed that the military version of “Starlink,” called “Star Shield,” could maintain a stable connection even at speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour.

Other Ukrainian officials said that testing is still continuing at a higher speed. One of the officials said that Kiev has yet to receive any explanations from the United States regarding why the 'Star Shield' was suddenly subject to speed restrictions.
