According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump denied on the 24th reports suggesting that he wants to demolish the White House news briefing room, but said that the White House press corps might be moved to another location for work.
Trump said that he “didn’t even think of doing such a stupid thing.” He posted on his own social media platform, Truth Social, saying, “I might move these fake news outlets to a place that isn’t so annoying.”
According to The New York Times, in August this year, Trump proposed a concept to White House former spokesperson Leavit, in front of several senior aides: to move journalists out of the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room. Essentially, this proposal involved moving news organizations out of the White House. However, this idea was never implemented.
Reports say that Trump told his staff that he wanted to restore the indoor swimming pool built by Roosevelt in 1933. The pool was constructed to help Roosevelt recover from polio, which left him with limited mobility in his legs. Later, Nixon covered the pool to make room for media use. Reporters with access to White House interviews work in a small office connected to the briefing room.
According to Reuters, Trump has long accused American media of reporting false information about his government. Last month, he temporarily banned journalists from CNN, MS Now, and the political news website Politico from entering the White House, and warned that other media outlets might face similar restrictions.
A federal judge determined that the ban might be unconstitutional and subsequently, the White House restored press interview rights for three media outlets.
