Russia Thwarts Drone Attack Plan by Ukrainian Suspects

According to a report by Reuters on October 26, the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) stated that it had thwarted an attack plan by Ukrainian drones launched from Russian territory, targeting key components of Moscow's air defense system and a power facility. The service also mentioned that two men involved in the plot have been arrested.

According to the FSB, these two men came from the South Caucasus region and were commanded by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU). They obtained drones with a first-person view and explosives from two regions in Russia, transported them to the Moscow area, and configured and activated the drones. The drones were originally planned to be remotely controlled from Ukraine.

FSB stated: “It has been determined that one of the suspects was recruited by an officer from the SBU. Under the instructions of that officer, and in exchange for promised financial rewards, he went to Russia to prepare and carry out sabotage and terrorist attacks. To do this, he enlisted the help of a close acquaintance.”

FB added that “the suspect was detained by FSB personnel when preparing to carry out a terrorist attack on a power infrastructure facility and a crucial component of Moscow's missile defense system.”

Reuters said that neither SBU nor Ukraine has commented immediately. In recent months, Ukraine has increased its drone attacks on the Russian capital, while Russia has also intensified attacks on Ukrainian power and other facilities.
