U.S. President Trump is seeking to replace the term "Artificial Intelligence" with "Superintelligence," but this proposal has received little response from people within the United States, which displeases Trump greatly.
On October 27th, local time, Trump criticized The Wall Street Journal on social media, accusing the newspaper of still using the term ‘AI’. He wrote, “When will The Wall Street Journal change this very bad and inaccurate term ‘AI’ to ‘SI’?”
Trump also stated that he will soon officially ban the use of the term "artificial intelligence" in "all relevant documents and in any other situations."
Previously, The Wall Street Journal published an article supporting the continued use of the term “artificial intelligence”, stating that Trump’s request to switch to the term “superintelligence” was a “giant mistake”. The article argued that people are not opposed to the term “superintelligence”, but they prefer to use “artificial intelligence” because it is “concise, clear, and easy to understand”.
On September 29, Trump signed an executive order requiring all government agencies to rename "artificial intelligence" as "superintelligence". On October 4, he announced the formation of a "Superintelligence Task Force", led by the Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, with the goal of "ensuring that the United States maintains its leading position in the field of superintelligence".
