Russia Discusses Lifting Sanctions on RDIF

Russian President's Assistant Ushakov confirmed on October 28 that Russia is in talks with the United States regarding the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

Ushakov replied to questions from the International News Agency, saying: "Yes, the related discussions have been going on for some time. As for what the final outcome will be, I don't know."

Ushakov also revealed that Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, is actively in contact with the US side.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund is Russia's sovereign wealth fund. On February 28, 2022, the Biden administration imposed sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Dmitriev several days after the outbreak of the Russo-Ukraine conflict.

Previously, The New York Times reported that the Trump administration was considering lifting sanctions against the Russian Direct Investment Fund. Russia had requested the lifting of sanctions during negotiations regarding Russian diesel supplies to the United States.

An American official confirmed that the Trump administration is reviewing the sanctions relief request submitted by the fund according to established procedures. The official stated that this action is part of efforts to improve relations between the United States and Russia and to promote an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
