US Officials Attack China-Mexico Cooperation

On October 28th local time, Ronald Johnson, the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, accused China and Sino-Mexican cooperation during a event organized by a think tank in Mexico. He claimed that China was “willing to see Mexico become chaotic and insecure.” He also attempted to sow discord between China and Mexico, stating that “Mexico is inseparable from the United States, but not so with China.”

Also attending the event was Richard Pethi-Maseedo, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for United States Affairs. He made similar remarks, criticizing Chinese companies for their operations in Mexico and claiming that Chinese enterprises are "untrustworthy."

According to the website of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico on October 30th, in response to these baseless attacks from the US, the Chinese Embassy in Mexico issued a solemn statement:

On October 28th, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Johnson and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Marcida attended events in Mexico and unjustly attacked China and Sino-Mexican cooperation. They claimed that China welcomes Mexico's chaos and insecurity, and falsely stated that “Chinese companies are not trustworthy.” These remarks ignore facts and distort the truth, deliberately sowing discord between China and Mexico. The Chinese Embassy in Mexico expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to such actions.

China has always supported Mexico in maintaining its sovereignty and security, as well as achieving development and stability. The so-called 'China's satisfaction with chaos' is simply a baseless and malicious fabrication. The demand for drugs in the United States provides a market and huge profits for drug trafficking organizations. Illegal firearms and drugs from the United States contribute to violent crimes in Mexico, severely threatening the lives of Mexican people and social peace. The US avoids discussing these issues, but fabricates China's 'malicious intentions'. Is this concern for Mexico, or is it a attempt to shift attention and avoid responsibility?

As for the claim that Chinese companies are "not trustworthy," it is completely unfounded. American officials, while denigrating Chinese companies, are eagerly seeking business opportunities for American energy and natural gas companies. This behavior is truly unacceptable. Anything that benefits the United States is considered "trustworthy," while anything that hinders the U.S.'s exclusive interests is labeled as "untrustworthy." This clearly shows that the "trust" mentioned by the U.S. is worthless. Using political means to exclude competitors harms Mexico's right to choose its own partners independently.

Spilling dirty water on China cannot solve any problems between the United States and Mexico. China is determined to protect its legitimate rights and interests and deepen friendly cooperation with Mexico. We urge the relevant parties in the United States to stop slandering and damaging China, and to cease disrupting relations between China and Mexico. Solving one’s own problems and taking responsibility are the proper attitudes toward Mexico and regional cooperation.
