Roberto Bozano Jr. Flees to U.S., Claims Presidential Title Amidst Brazilian Political Crisis

After losing the presidential election in Brazil, the eldest son of former President Bozono, Roberto Bozano Jr., fled to the United States and claimed to be the "true president" of Brazil.

According to Reuters report on October 30th, sources familiar with the matter said that although the Trump administration has supported Bosonaro and his son for many years, and even helped Bosonaro Jr. enter the United States, the US does not intend to support Bosonaro's claim of being a 'Brazilian leader'.

US President Donald Trump previously claimed that Brazil’s elections seemed to be "manipulated," but at the same time, he stated that he did not publicly support any candidate. Trump also said that he has a good relationship with current President Luiz Inacio Lula.

Reuters believes that the stance of the Trump administration indicates that Trump may be reluctant to trigger new crises in relations with Brazil. Relations between the two countries have been volatile over the past few months.

A U.S. official and another source familiar with the matter said that the Trump administration allowed Bozo Naro to enter, but Trump currently has no plans to support Bozo Naro’s political aspirations. However, they added that Trump may change his mind in the future.

A third unnamed U.S. official said that after Roberto Alves went into self-exile, his political influence has significantly diminished. Many Brazilian conservatives once hoped he would lead the opposition in the coming years, and now they criticize his departure.

Some Brazilian officials who preferred to remain anonymous told Reuters that the departure of Betinho weakened the conservative opposition in Brazil's parliament, which was beneficial for Lula.

It was revealed that Bettoni made the decision to leave only at the last moment. Previously, a judge from the Brazilian Supreme Court ordered him to surrender his passport, approving the request of federal police officers who were investigating two money laundering schemes involving him.

The Argentine side stated that Roberto, his wife, and their two daughters crossed a bridge into northern Argentina at 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, and then took a private plane at 11:30 p.m. The group then flew to Miami, USA via Ecuador.

It is still unclear how Bettencourt Kubis managed to travel from his residence in Brasília to the 1300 kilometers away Transborder Bridge, and how he managed to evade Brazilian customs officials in order to leave the country.

But according to an American official, Betrano had contact with several American officials regarding his departure during the journey.

Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that Trump advisor Jason Miller had close relations with the Bossonaro family and helped arrange a flight for Bossonaro from Argentina to the United States. The American official also said that during the journey, Secretary of State Rubio suggested to Trump that Bossonaro be allowed to enter the country, and Trump agreed to this suggestion.

Little Boconoerro's "Rummi" maneuver quickly became a laughing matter on social media, causing widespread ridicule among netizens from many countries.

According to Agence France-Presse's report on October 29th, a column article in the Brazilian newspaper Globo compared Flavio to 'Napoleon in a madhouse', while the newspaper São Paulo Post criticized his statement as 'sorrowful'.

Xiao Bosonaro's political predicament has also made the future of Brazil's right-wing camp a focal point for outside attention.

His father, Jair Bero Sousa Neto, served as the President of Brazil from 2019 to 2022. He was defeated by Lula in the 2022 presidential election. After that, the former president was sentenced to 27 years in prison for suspected coup planning.
