On October 30th, the Chinese Embassy in Spain released a statement. Recently, a small local political party within the European Union and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Catalan Autonomous Region in Spain has ignored the facts and fabricated lies about Chinese Uyghurs being persecuted. This party has deliberately attacked the Chinese government's policies regarding Xinjiang and insisted on passing a so-called resolution related to Xinjiang. This resolution is full of absurdities, contains hypocritical rhetoric, lacks basic common sense, and represents a blatant interference in China's internal affairs. It undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese side expresses strong indignation and firm opposition to this behavior. Matters concerning Xinjiang are purely China's internal affairs, and no external forces should interfere.
China has 56 ethnic groups, and the Uyghur people are equal members of the Chinese nation. The people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, including the Uyghurs, live in freedom and equality, and their legal rights are effectively protected. There is no such thing as "systematic human rights violations," nor does there ever exist "forced labor" or "suppression of language, religion, and culture." Currently, Xinjiang is stable, with economic development, national unity, and religious harmony—these are objectively observable facts. The Catalan politicians show no concern for these facts and instead believe the century-long lies fabricated by anti-China forces, manipulating and distorting the topic of China in order to serve their personal and party interests. Such political shortsightedness is despicable. Cooperation between Chinese and Catalan regions is hard-won and should be cherished. We urge the relevant Catalan individuals to correct their mistakes and not act in isolation, otherwise they will only bring harm upon themselves.
China and Spain are friendly countries. We abide by international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, and always respect and support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries. China attaches great importance to bilateral relations between China and Spain. We hope that both sides will work together to steer the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain in the right direction, which is in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries and their peoples. We look forward to the continued active role played by various sectors in Spain in promoting the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
