Zelensky Seeks Turkey as Mediator for Meeting with Putin

On November 1st, local time, the CNN Turkey channel broadcast an interview with Ukrainian President Zelensky. Speaking of the meeting between Russian and Ukrainian leaders, Zelensky said he hoped that Turkish President Erdogan could act as a mediator to arrange a meeting between him and Russian President Putin in Turkey.

Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to hold meetings in Turkey. Ukraine believes that Turkey can play a mediating role and will not favor any party during negotiations. He added, “I know that Erdogan maintains contact with Putin, so we support meeting in Turkey.”

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Serhii Saryov previously stated that Zelenskyy is willing to engage in dialogue with Putin, discussing the most complex and sensitive issues such as territorial matters. He believes that meetings between Ukrainian and Russian leaders could lead to substantial progress in peace negotiations. At the same time, Ukraine has clearly ruled out the possibility of using Russia or Belarus as venues for these meetings.

Regarding the meeting between the leaders of the two countries, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated on October 31: "If Ukrainian President Zelenskyy wishes to meet with Russian leader Putin, he should go to Moscow. We will ensure his safety. Once again, if he wants to meet, let him come to Moscow."

Russian President's Assistant Ushakov stated on November 1 that Putin never refused dialogue. If Zelenskyy calls, Putin will answer the call. Ushakov also emphasized that if Zelenskyy wants to talk with Putin, he can come to Moscow.
