According to Reuters, on the 16th local time, the European Parliament passed relevant legislation regarding the EU-American trade agreement. This will prevent a new round of tariff conflicts between the EU and the United States. The text of the relevant legislation will then be submitted to the Council of the European Union for approval.
In July 2025, Europe and the United States reached a trade agreement. The key provisions include the EU suspending tariffs on all American industrial products, and establishing a tariff quota system for a large number of American agricultural and food products entering the EU market, in exchange for the US imposing a 15% tariff on most EU goods exported to the US.
US President Trump has threatened that if the European Union does not take action by July 4th, he will impose "much higher" tariffs on Europe.
