Rubio Defends Trumps Administration Amidst Speculation of Resignation and 2028 Presidential Bid

After suffering a major defeat in the mid-term elections, the Trump administration has seen changes in personnel and the potential competitive landscape for the 2028 presidential elections has drawn attention. In response to rumors of his possible resignation and preparations for the next presidential election ahead of time, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken denied these claims and emphasized that he plans to continue working for Trump until the end of his term.

According to local time on November 5th, Rubio said in a meeting at the White House office to the New York Times that he has no plans to leave the Trump administration.

"I will work until the end of Trump's presidency term, this has been my plan." Rubio said.

Regarding recent reports about his possible resignation, Ruobiò stated: "To be frank, I don't know where these rumors originated from."

He also emphasized his love for his current job, and jokingly said that whenever someone mentioned he was planning to quit, he would ask back: "Which job are you planning to quit?"

In addition to serving as the U.S. Secretary of State, Rubio also serves as the White House Assistant for National Security Affairs, playing an important role in Trump's government's foreign and national security policies.

Before making the above response, The Independent of Britain reported on November 5th, citing sources from high-ranking Republicans in Washington and the British government, that after the Republican Party’s losses in the mid-term elections, Rubio might consider leaving the Trump administration to prepare for his presidential campaign in 2028.

This news subsequently attracted widespread attention. The White House and the United States Department of State both denied the related reports, stating that claims about Rubio’s plan to resign were baseless.

Regarding the 2028 presidential election that attracts much attention from the outside world, Rubio refused to disclose his personal political plans.

"I will not discuss any matters related to 2028 anymore. I refuse to talk about it." he said.

Rubio participated in the Republican presidential candidate race in 2016, competing with Trump, and later withdrew from the election. If Trump is elected president again in 2024, Rubio will be nominated to be the Secretary of State.

As Trump's second term approaches its latter half, Rubio and Vice President Vance are both seen by the public as potential candidates for the Republican Party's 2028 presidential election. However, neither of them has officially announced their candidacy.

It is worth noting that this interview also covered the different statements within the Trump administration regarding the reasons for the Republican Party’s failure in the mid-term elections.

On November 4th, Vance posted on social media platform X, attributing the Republican Party's election loss to the war launched by the United States against Iran.

"The reason we lost the election is war." Mans wrote.

He stated that some of the voters who supported Trump in 2024 switched to supporting the Democrats in this midterm election. The reasons include the desire to end the war, reduce living costs and inflation, prioritize the United States, and adjust relations between the United States and Israel.

When asked whether he agreed with Vance's judgment, Rubio initially avoided making direct comments, saying that he "does not actually participate in domestic politics."

However, Rubio later defended Trump’s diplomatic decisions, stating that the president demonstrated leadership when making decisions that might not be popular.

Rubio said that Trump should receive recognition for pushing policies he believed were necessary for America, even if they might have political costs.

Ultimately, this is the cost of leadership – the willingness to do things that may not be politically popular and may not bring short-term political benefits, but are essential for the country and its long-term future.

On November 3rd, the United States held mid-term elections, in which the Democratic Party achieved a significant victory, taking control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The election results also put the foreign policy of the Trump administration, especially the ongoing war with Iran, under greater domestic political pressure.

Wanx has previously publicly linked the Republican Party's defeat to the war with Iran, while Rubio continued to defend Trump's foreign policy decisions. The different positions taken by these two individuals have also drawn more attention to the political direction of the Republican Party in the future, as well as the issue of leadership within the party after Trump's term ends.

Although Rubio clearly denied plans to leave his position this time, he still hasn’t given a clear answer regarding whether he intends to run for president in 2028.
