According to a message from the WeChat public account “China Embassy in the United States” dated July 7, on November 6, 2026, China’s Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the giant panda exhibition at the Atlanta Zoo. In September of this year, President Xi Jinping conducted a historic state visit to the United States, during which he announced the news that a new pair of giant pandas, “Pingping” and “Fushuang”, would be housed at the Atlanta Zoo. Three days later, these “gifts from the president” successfully arrived across the ocean, accelerating the cooperation between Chinese and American giant pandas and writing a new chapter in the friendship between the Chinese and American peoples. Now, there is one Chinese ambassador in Washington, but two Chinese “panda envoys” in Atlanta—both of whom are significant in their own right. In total, there are six such “panda envoys” active across the United States, making this number the largest of its kind worldwide. I am truly happy that these “heavyweight envoys” have joined the cause of Sino-US friendship!

Xie Feng said that the new pair of giant pandas is named with the most sincere feelings from the Chinese people towards the American people, carrying the best hopes for Sino-US relations. We name them 'Ping Ping', wishing both countries eternal peace and happy lives for its people; and 'Fu Shuang', expressing our wishes for mutual benefit and a lasting blessing for the people of both countries. Under the careful care of the Atlanta Zoo, the new pair of giant pandas will surely eat well, sleep soundly, and grow up healthily in Atlanta. They will bring double joy and blessings to every friend who loves them.
