EUs Role in Supporting Ukraine Post-War

On November 6, European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated after attending an informal meeting of foreign ministers from Baltic countries in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. She said that it is currently impossible to determine when and how Ukraine and Russia will reach a peace agreement, but any such agreement requires the involvement of the European Union.

From safety guarantees, sanctions to postwar reconstruction and Ukraine joining the EU, these issues cannot be avoided by the EU. Karas said.

She added that how the EU will handle sanctions against Russia and the frozen Russian assets is also up to the EU to decide.

This week, the EU allocated a aid loan of 4.36 billion euros. Ukrainian Prime Minister Kolytsky posted on social media on the 5th, stating that the 4.36 billion euro loan from the EU is part of a total aid package for Ukraine worth 90 billion euros. Of this amount, 3.7 billion euros is for macro-financial assistance, and 660 million euros is for defense assistance.

Karas stated that Europe will continue to strongly support Ukraine. "We are not a mediation party. We firmly stand on the side of Ukraine."

She also said that Europe already has a security framework, and NATO and the EU each play their role within it. It is necessary to ensure that Ukraine becomes part of this framework.
