Xi Jinping Meets with Myanmar President: Bilateral Cooperation Deepened

On the morning of June 16th, President Xi Jinping held talks with Myanmar's President Htin Yan Lay in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the friendship between China and Myanmar is profound. Over the past 76 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, both countries have stood together through thick and thin, helping each other in times of need. They have jointly advocated and practiced the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, setting a model of equality between nations and mutual benefit. China adheres to the principle of sincerity, friendship, generosity, and harmony. It places the development of relations with Myanmar at an important position in its neighboring diplomacy. China respects the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. Its friendly policies towards Myanmar are aimed at all the people of Myanmar. China firmly supports Myanmar in maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity. It supports the new government of Myanmar in coordinating development and security efforts, and finding a path of development that suits the national conditions and is supported by the people. This year marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. China is willing to share its development experiences with Myanmar, and together we can build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future characterized by friendly political relations, mutual benefits in development, coordinated security efforts, and mutual cultural exchange. This will bring more benefits to the people of both countries and contribute more to regional peace and development.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China is Myanmar's neighbor with the longest shared border, and a trustworthy friend and partner. In the face of an international situation full of uncertainties, both sides should maintain strategic clarity and determination, and strengthen unity and cooperation. The China-Myanmar Economic Corridor is a flagship project for the two countries' joint "Belt and Road" initiative. Both sides should steadily advance the construction of key projects, under the premise of ensuring safety, to support Myanmar's economic development and improvement of people's livelihoods. China is willing to further support Myanmar's post-earthquake reconstruction efforts, implement more "small but meaningful" aid programs, and jointly tell stories of mutual benefit and cooperation between China and Myanmar. Both sides should continue to crack down on criminal activities such as online gambling, fraud, and drug smuggling, and effectively safeguard the interests and safety of the people of both countries. China supports all parties in Myanmar to promote peace and reconciliation through negotiations, thereby achieving long-term stability in northern Myanmar. This is in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of the country and its people.

Min Aung Lein stated that the friendship between Myanmar and China has a long history, with mutual assistance and support throughout the years. Both countries adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and have established a solid partnership of good-neighborliness and friendship. They are moving towards a new stage of building a community with a shared future, where we share happiness and hardship together. Myanmar thanks China for its long-term unselfish support for Myanmar's development, stability, and peace and reconciliation, and will firmly adhere to the One-China Principle. The new Myanmar government is making every effort to promote domestic peace and development, and is actively exploring a political system and development path that suits its own national conditions. China's implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan provides important opportunities for Asian neighbors like Myanmar. Myanmar looks forward to strengthening all-round cooperation with China, jointly building the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor, and enhancing trade and investment levels. Myanmar attaches great importance to ensuring the safety of Chinese enterprises and personnel in Myanmar. Myanmar is willing to cooperate closely with China, resolutely combat online gambling and fraud, and maintain border security and stability. Myanmar fully supports the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and is willing to strengthen multilateral communication and cooperation with China.

After the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents in areas such as transportation and people's livelihood.

Before the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for Min Aung Lee in the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

When Min Aung Lea arrived, the honor guards lined up to pay their respects. The two heads of state climbed onto the parade ground, and the military band played the national anthems of China and Myanmar. There were 21 salutes fired from Tiananmen Square. Accompanied by Xi Jinping, Min Aung Lea inspected the parade of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and watched the ceremonial procession.
